Today, the recently-turned 90-year-old’s work looks a little different – taking place mostly indoors, and with a different crowd. Through her program called “Roots & Shoots,” Goodall empowers young people to create change within their communities. CNN spoke with Goodall recently during a trip to South Africa, where she observed some of the projects local Johannesburg students are heading up as part of Roots & Shoots. Goodall: I think it’s really important, this exchange of information from the elders to the youngers. Goodall: When I began Roots & Shoots in Tanzania in 1991, it was because I was meeting young people then who had lost hope.

Tracey Emin carried around a giant tote decades before enormous handbags were fashionable. “Ironic now, thinking about that, right?” she says, in her soft, working-class-accent, on a chilly afternoon, as she tries to find a comfortable position on a sofa in her recently renovated townhouse on Fitzroy Square, a genteel, central-London pocket that was once home to both Virginia Woolf and George Bernard Shaw. She reaches into the large canvas carryall at her feet to pull out a plastic pouch of urine, which is connected under her loose cotton shift by a long tube to a stoma in her abdomen. She waves it slightly, a white flag, maybe, though because this is Emin, surrender has never been an option. “I made them leave my clitoris,” she says.

Stephen Drucker, the veteran shelter magazine editor who worked for Mr. Gropp in the 1970s, said by phone: “Lou saw himself as a business head. It was the only magazine in its category — magazines with circulations between 400,000 and 1 million — to do so. By 1987, however, Mr. Liberman and S.I. They gave her House & Garden instead. Mr. Gropp was typically sanguine.

London CNN —The 20th annual installment of Frieze — London’s biggest and most influential art fair — has officially begun. A grape soda fountainAdam Farah-Saad's debut at the Public Gallery booth included a steel 6-person fountain pumping KA grape soda. Courtesy of Public GalleryLondon artist Adam Farah-Saad’s first solo exhibition presented by Public Gallery featured a large reworked steel drinking fountain similar to those seen at children’s parks or playgrounds. This version would probably prove more popular with those under 18, too, since it exclusively pumps out KA Black Grape Soda instead of H2O. Placed 20 inches away is a rotating electric fan causing the pages of the pad to flutter between drawings.

CNN —The world of Sarah Lucas is crowded with body parts. “Chicken Knickers”, a photo from 1997, is one of over 75 works on display as part of “Happy Gas” a major retrospective of Lucas’ work at the Tate Britain gallery in London. Lucy Dawkins/Tate BritainHow you respond to the work implies something about you as much the art, Lucas said during an interview with CNN on the day of the exhibition preview. It probably depends on what you’re bringing to it; whether you’re secretly embarrassed about something. A fit and ruddy 19-year-old with blond hair and a sheepish smile, James Henderson is tanning on a beach in Magaluf, a town on the Spanish island Mallorca that has long been the destination of choice for young Britons in search of a boozy holiday in the sun. Asked to recount the revelry of the day before, he grins like a man who has just completed a decathlon and is pretty psyched about his performance. There was a few hours of “pre-drinking,” as he put it, at his hotel, then on to Punta Ballena, a crammed and gritty strip of pubs, tattoo parlors and lap dance emporiums that bursts with action until dawn every summer day. By the time he and his vacation buddy headed to bed, at 3 a.m., they had each knocked back roughly 20 drinks over the course of 15 hours. There are also G-rated home comforts, like kebab shops, Yorkshire pudding and pubs, all at strikingly affordable prices.

CNN —Amsterdam’s city council has approved a proposal banning “polluting” cruise ships as part of the city’s latest move to clamp down on overtourism. A spokesperson for Amsterdam Deputy Mayor Hester van Buren, who has responsibility for the city’s port, told CNN that the council approved a proposal on Thursday to close the city’s cruise ship terminal. The ban on "polluting" cruise ships is just one of many moves by Amsterdam to limit the effects of overtourism. D66 party chairwoman Ilana Rooderkerk emphasized in the statement that “polluting cruise ships do not fit with the sustainable ambitions” of Amsterdam. “Cruise ships in the heart of the city do not fit into Amsterdam’s goal of reducing the number of tourists,” Rooderkerk added.

[1/6] A bottle of cuvee produced by Aston Kirby, 20-year-old winemaker, is seen in Sussex, Britain, July 13,2023. Twenty-year-old Ashton Kirby began working in the Bewl Water Vineyard in rolling countryside in East Sussex, southeast England, when his parents bought it in a neglected state three years ago. He said that warmer British weather as a result of climate change meant the grape variety now produced "fantastic wine", which he described as an English Sauvignon Blanc. Last year, research from the University of Reading highlighted the impact of climate change on Britain's viticulture regions by 2050. WineGB said the British wine industry was expanding at a phenomenal rate, with the area under plantation expected to double by 2032.

An Austrian village has had a temporary wall installed in a bid to cut visitor numbers, per CNN. The Alpine village has a tiny population but has been plagued with overtourism for years. However, visitor numbers can reach up to 10,000 visitors a day, according to the BBC. The area is thought to be the inspiration for Arendelle, the fictional setting for Disney's hit film. To combat the crowds, other villages and cities have instituted measures to reduce tourists.

The reduced hours come amid an ongoing campaign by the city council to move sex workers into an “erotic center” outside the heart of the city. She also spoke about welfare concerns for all sex workers, explaining how it could impact their ability to get home safely. A protest organized by sex workers interrupted a city council meeting on Thursday that was discussing location options for the proposed erotic center. Sex workers disagree, with Red Light United arguing that the erotic center could create an environment for more crime and “shady” behavior.
